Durban ready to Ride the Wave at the Hollywoodbets Durban July
Durban – It’s all systems go as sponsors, partners, racegoers and punters rub shoulders with the finest fashionistas, designers and models and converge on Durban’s Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse for Africa’s Greatest Horseracing and Social Event of the year.
Once again, Durban’s warm winter weather promises a champagne experience of horse racing, entertainment and fashion at the Hollywoodbets Durban July.
Race Seven at 4pm features 18 of the best of the country’s middle-distance horses who are all vying to be first over the line in the 2200m premier race on Saturday July 6 and claim their share of the R5m stake.
Special mention must be made of the first female jockey to ride in the Hollywoodbets Durban July, Rachel Venniker. She was down to ride Without Question before a late scratching on Thursday threatened to make it third-time unlucky for the young jockey. However, the reserve, Hluhluwe, is also trained by Justin Snaith and runs in the colours of Nick Jonsson so Venniker will still make history on Saturday.
This year, the 127th Hollywoodbets Durban July promises to be a spectacular fashion affair. Under the banner of this year’s theme ‘Ride the Wave’, all three components of the fashion pillar of the event – the Young Designers, the DFF Rising Stars and the Invited Designers showcase – will come together in a grand finale to hear who has won and walked away with some incredible prizes, and of course, prestigious titles.
Think out-of-the-box inspiration, the fashion element amongst all three components has been exceptionally high this year. The judges will have a tough time deciding on the winner, second and third places as the creativity showcased by these innovative designs adds an extra layer of entertainment to this auspicious occasion.
For those attending, there are Raceday Fashion Competitions where guests will have a chance to show off their remarkable outfits and creations. Categories including classic racewear for men and women, best dressed couple, and the exceptional raceday hat or fascinator will all be announced.
Meanwhile infield, the marquee village, picnic spots and grandstand area of incredible suites will provide the perfect venue to network and socialize in an atmosphere of style. The area provides the best space for entertainment and food while still imbibing the raceday atmosphere. Big screens will provide the perfect way to watch each race. Top class DJs will provide music and vibes until the early hours of the morning.
Mango Groove will provide this year’s rendition of the national anthem, while various other top DJs in the marquee village are lined up to ensure those looking for an late-night party are not disappointed.
This year’s Hollywoodbets Durban July promises to provide everyone with a full day’s entertainment. From fashion, food to music and entertainment, no-one will be disappointed as Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse carries on the proud tradition of one of the longest running racing events in the history of horse racing.
