Gallops usher in the final Hollywoodbets Durban July stretch
The first in-person Hollywoodbets Durban July Gallops since 2019 took place at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on Thursday morning as punters, socialites, models, trainers and horses gathered for the traditional early morning running of next weekend’s contenders.
The 126th edition of Africa’s Greatest Horseracing Event will draw a significant crowd for the first time since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic and spectators got a small taste of what to expect at a busy Greyville ahead of next Saturday’s festivities.
A number of the race’s top candidates were present and were taken through their paces with 2021 champion Kommetdieding and last year’s runner-up Linebacker both running through on Thursday morning.
Linebacker ran with stable companion Look for Hounds and put in a decent gallop and will go into next week’s main race as one of the horses to look out for. Two-time champion Do It Again was given the approval from jockey Aldo Domeyer.
Another of the pre-race favourites Jet Dark put in a strong gallop on Thursday morning cementing its place as one of the runners to watch at next weekend’s prestigious main race.
The morning’s running of the horses was also complimented by the traditional coffee and sticky buns as everyone got a final glimpse of the runners ahead of the highly anticipated Hollywoodbets Durban July on 2 July.
