About Race Coast

Thoroughbred horse racing in KwaZulu-Natal is managed by Race Coast, which was launched in May 2025.

Race Coast emerged from the merger of Gold Circle’s operations in KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape-based Cape Racing, united under the Hollywoodbets banner.

The new organisation is committed to modernising all aspects of the industry with integrity, while building off the foundation of a legacy of a rich tradition of the sport that dates back over a century in South Africa.

With a focus on innovation and community engagement, Race Coast is dedicated to ensuring a bright and exciting future for horse racing in South Africa, with a philosophy to reignite a passion for the sport, while attracting a new and diverse audience.

The amalgamation of three of South Africa’s top racing clubs, namely the Durban Turf Club, the Clairwood Turf Club and the Pietermaritzburg Turf Club, led to the formation of Gold Circle in 1996.

With racecourses at Greyville in Durban and at Scottsville in Pietermaritzburg, a number of world-class thoroughbred training centres in KwaZulu-Natal, a network of company-owned tote betting outlets and privately-owned outlets, and a network of fixed-odds betting outlets, Race Coast is leading the way when it comes to horse racing in South Africa.

Race Coast stages the Hollywoodbets Durban July – Africa’s Greatest Horseracing Event – at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on the first Saturday in July every year.
