About SARDA Durban

SARDA Durban (South African Riding for the Disabled Association), which is based at The SA Jockey Academy, is the title charity for the Hollywoodbets Durban July. Each year SARDA Durban receives a substantial donation from Africa’s Greatest Horseracing Event as a show of support for their continued efforts and for the great work that they do.
SARDA Durban is a non-profit organisation which provides specialised horse riding classes to mentally and physically handicapped children.
The lessons are run by Riding for Disabled Association-trained instructors. Lessons are held four days a week at The SA Jockey Academy in Summerveld.
The lessons are offered free of charge to primary school children from the greater Durban Area, with both physical and emotional disabilities.
Specialised treatment using horse riding lessons has proven to yield tremendous results in children – the success stories are endless.
The movement of being on top of a horse helps the children relax and de-stress, as well as develop their muscles without the strain of gravity on their little bodies.
In 2010, thanks in part to the support from Gold Circle Horseracing and Betting and their sponsor of the Durban July at that time, Vodacom, the SARDA Durban premises proudly opened its fully undercover training arena, which continued to provide these essential services, no matter what the weather.
In order for SARDA Durban to be able to continue to provide this beneficial therapy for the children, they rely on the generosity of a number of donors. In this regard they are very appreciative of Hollywoodbets’ interest in their cause and thank Hollywoodbets for their very generous contribution towards ensuring the service that SARDA Durban provides, continues to thrive.
