My Inspiration ...
“For this year’s Hollywoodbets Durban July theme, Country Allure, Indoni Fashion House turned to the mountain kingdom of Lesotho, a landlocked jewel in the heart of Southern Africa for inspiration. Our creative direction was deeply shaped by the iconic Basotho cowboys, revered for their exceptional horsemanship, resilience, and unmistakable style forged through heritage, survival, and tradition.
The goal was to create a balance where tradition meets modern storytelling, while keeping the cultural aspects respectful and making the look feel current.
The Basotho cowboy is more than a rider; he is a symbol of strength, identity, and cultural pride, draped in richly symbolic wool blankets secured with safety pins, shielded by balaclavas, crowned with the iconic mokorotlo, and shaped by the untamed terrain he calls home. His story is one of movement, resilience, and an unbreakable bond with the land.
In honour of this legacy, Indoni re-imagines these traditional elements through a contemporary South African lens, merging isishweshwe with denim to create original textile stories that embody both cowboy grit and Basotho pride. Leather, Basotho blankets, safety pins, layered textures, and silhouettes become the thread between tradition and reinvention, a bold celebration of country culture with unmistakable African flair.
This collection is our tribute to heritage, craftsmanship, and the enduring beauty of Southern Africa’s spirit.”
