Africa’s Greatest Horseracing and Social Event
Durban – A year ago the Hollywoodbets Durban July was worried about fans returning in the first “post-Covid” event. Just 12 months later, Gold Circle is ready to show why Saturday’s event has maintained its reputation as Africa’s Greatest Horseracing and Social Event
Crisp winter weather, a track full of stars, and a capacity crowd of celebrities and socialites expecting an “Out of this World” experience will make for a spectacular 127th Hollywoodbets Durban July at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.
Racing aficionados are eagerly anticipating a thrilling seventh race at 4pm when 18 former and future champions aim for the R2.94million share of the R5 million stake which goes to the winner of the main event.
The “Out of this World” theme has already resulted in some spectacular fashion from the Young Designer Award competition, as well as the DFF Rising Stars Collection and Invited Designer Showcase shows.
And on Saturday even more wonderful – and sometimes weird – outfits are sure to wow the crowds again with the Raceday Fashion Competitions. The Classic Racewear for Men and Women, Best Dressed Couple and the Exceptional Raceday Hat or Fascinator are open to the public with the hopefuls keen to catch the eye of the judges.
The infield Marquee Village and the dozens of plush suites in the grandstand will be a blaze of colour as décor specialists strive to out-do each other decorating each venue.
Each of the twelve races on the card will be followed by fashion and entertainment on the various stages, culminating in the Ndlovu Youth Choir performing just before and after the main race and singing the National Anthem, and then Joss Austin and various DJs guide the entertainment into the evening.
It is a day when problems are forgotten and fun-loving South Africans from all walks of life share in one of South Africa’s most iconic annual sporting and social occasions – and a chance for punters, fashionistas and the general public to have an “Out of this World” experience.
